Thumbs up DIY: How to stop the car from beeping with the door open

The point of this is so if your at a car show, or at home cleaning your car and you have the car in aux mode to play music without the car being completely on, it wont beep.

Its very annoying if your trying to show off your system at a car show and you have all the doors and trunk open, and the car is beeping like all hell.

Two downfalls to this though if your keys are in the ignition the car doesnt know, so if it auto locks it will lock the keys in the car. Also, it wont beep if you leave your lights on accidently and open the door. So make sure you always kill your lights.

And dont unplug something you shouldnt and end up setting off ur airbag =)

All you have to do is remove the cover around the steering wheel (3 screws under the wheel and it pops off) and then you only have to disconnect the white plug. That's all.

I take no credit for this post from this point on. These pics are from a post by Scorpion 6 on mazda6club.

Then just reassemble the lower steering column the same way you disassembled it

It should only beep if you have your keys in the ignition, correct?

Yup. This is the car's way of trying to keep you from locking the keys in the car (or at least while still in the ignition, anyway). Why would you want to stop it?

Not sure what size bulb that is. the steering column comes off easy enoughto check though. just 3 screws.

And the point of this is so if your at a car show, or at home cleaning your car and u have the car in aux mode to play music without the car being completely on, it wont beep. If your trying to show off your system at a car show and u have all the doors and trunk open, u dont want the beeping goin on. Only downfall other than locking the keys in the car is that it wont beep if you leave your lights on accidently and open the door.

I guess that makes sense. Personally, I wouldn't leave it on Aux mode for fear of draining the battery, though, and it doesn't beep when the engine is on.

I ran my car is aux mode for the entire Transformers3 movie (2 and a half hours) with a subwoofer running on a 350 watt amp, and it started right up. wasnt even sluggish to turn over

That's exactly how I get around the beep. When I'm washing or working on the car with the radio on, I turn the key all the way to "on", and I'm sure that everything else is off (lights, climate control, etc.). I still have control of the windows if needed, and there's no beep (except for the initial 10 seconds). Still plenty of juice to start right up after 2-3 hours as well.

^this. I just turn off the blower and leave the key in the on position. NBD.

C i know for me, or other ppl with some SERIOUS aftermarket systems, having the key in the "on" position will kill their battery. i mean, scott left one little interior light on at GPNY for the meet and it killed his battery in a few hours. To each his own, i guess it depends on what your running in your car.
