    Default Front brake humming noise

I've been having an issue with my brakes for a while now. It didn't bother me too much but now it is getting really loud and braking performance is down. I would describe it as a humming or singing noise coming from the left front brake/wheel. I noticed today that the rotor is getting really hot and the pads are smelling from heat. Reading some bimmerforums stuff gave me a couple ideas but nothing is for sure.

    1) brake line swelling- not sure what this entails, but it affects abs and brake performance

2)Abs wheel speed sensor or pump - I am not familiar with how abs systems work but the sensor could be dirty or something knocked it out if whack.

Once I can get my car in to a shop I will be replacing front pads and having the brakes bled. Should I also replace brake hoses? The car has almost 110k miles, rotors have 30k. Anyone else have this issue?

It's not seized, this only happens when braking.

I have a similar/exactly the same problem right now and I'm not too good with these things but from what my mechanic told me its that one of the pistons in the callipers is probably getting stuck when breaking, however mine continues to make the sound even when I stop breaking.. It sounds like I'm driving a train now. Bottom line is get this fixed before you screw up your disk like I did..

My only issue now.is finding a place to do the service...trying to avoid the dealer but I may go there just to get it done right.

    That's why I suggested it's hanging too.

You could always look into a used caliper.

Could you get a price for me, Shel?

I always had planned to do the upgrade to speed6 calipers if I needed to replace them.

If you are wanting Speed calipers, nothing in stock. I can only do new. No idea why you guys want Speed6 stuff. Just put a nice set of pads on there and call it a day. Our stock brakes are more than adequate, even for spirited driving. If you want to stay with the stock caliper, shoot me a PM.

So I had the rear brakes done today and had the caliper checked out. So far they noise has gone from front right to rear and now after the brake job it's at the rear right. Now I'm thinking it's somehing to do with the ABS system.

    Any thoughts?

If it was ABS, you would feel it in the pedal. Did you bed the new pads properly? If you just went out on new pads and ran them hard you may have crystallized them. No shit. They need heat cycling for a couple hundred miles till they're right.
So, can you feel this hum through the pedal? Is there any glazing on the rotor?
