Default Newbie question about first gen cars

I decided to post this here as it sounds like a newbie question.

I have seen on the forum main page that it says 1st GEN (03-05) (06-08)

what is the difference between the two?

IF i am going to replace my 04 mazda6 with a 2007 model for instance are they BOTH first gen? are all or most parts interchangable?

    Thanks for the help

The major difference between Gen 1 (03-05) and Gen 1.5 (06-08) is the exhaust plumbing. Gen 1.5 was freer flowing and consequently didn't eat precats. The blocks are the same.

If you get a Fusion block, there are parts that need to get swapped out, and there are threads here on precisely that.

There are also some cosmetic differences. The bumpers/front grills/radios were given a face lift. Also the Speed 6 was introduced in 2006.

Thanks. I am thinking of getting another 6 and either parting out my 04 or selling it as is.
One of the cars I am looking at is an 05 Mazda 6 with a manual transmission and a 4 cylinder.
Anything I should be looking for?

So the deal is done....got an 07 Mazda 6 wagon with a V6.
One owner, not beat on and bone stock. And it has a automatic.
    198000 km
Kind of a tan colour with tan leather interior.
Will post a pic when I pick it up.

I never seen a Mazda 6 wagon. Are these not available in the US?

The 2g and 3g no, but 1g wagons are all over the place here.

Hate to burst your bubble but pebble ass was only 03-05. In 06 they replaced it with smokestone.
